Tech stocks continued to benefit from the rising AI investment trend, pushing the Nasdaq to new intraday and closing highs, ending up about 0.4% at 27,244.28 points; the S&P 500 dipped slightly by 0.06 points to 7,764.64 points; the Dow Jones fell 185.14 points, or 0.36%, to 51,863.69 points. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index closed at 24,834, down 253 points or 1%, with turnover of HK$184.3 billion.

   Regarding major economic events around the world, at 8:00pm Hong Kong time tonight, Ruth Smith, Executive Director for Resolution at the Bank of England, will deliver a speech. At 10:00pm, Bank of England Deputy Governor Lombardelli will deliver a speech. At 10:05pm, Federal Reserve Governor Barr will speak on the topic of "housing" at the "Housing Affordability in 2026: Community Development Summit" hosted by the Chicago Fed. At 12:00am early Thursday, ECB Executive Board member Cipollone will deliver a speech and then participate in a panel discussion. At 12:30am, ECB Executive Board member Lane will deliver a speech.

   On the data front, at 9:45pm tonight, the US will release September manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI), forecast to decline from 53.9 to 53.7; the September composite PMI is expected to drop from 56 to 55.3; the September services PMI is expected to fall from 56.5 to 55.8. (wa)
