PetroChina rises nearly 4%, oil prices rebound as U.S. rejects Iran's proposal to reopen Strait of Hormuz

The Economic Information Agency reported on the 28th that the three major oil companies rose together. PetroChina (00857) is currently up 3.6%, trading at HK$9.75, with a trading volume of about 66.05 million shares involving HK$642 million, reaching a high of HK$9.865 and a low of HK$9.4; CNOOC (00883) rose 1.5% to HK$23.76; Sinopec (00386) rose 2.1% to HK$4.52.

U.S. President Trump, in a phone interview with news website Axios, said he rejected Iran's recent proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, but expected U.S.-Iran talks to resume this week.

The news boosted oil prices. The latest price for New York crude futures is $94.33 per barrel, up 2.08%; Brent crude futures are at $99.10, up 1.70%.

Earlier on Sunday (27th), Iran said it was awaiting a U.S. response to a proposal aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, and stated it would not loosen its conditions after Trump rejected Iran's latest proposal.

Currently, the Hang Seng Index stands at 24,721, up 211 points or 0.9%, with main board turnover exceeding HK$126.6 billion. The China Enterprise Index is at 8,239, up 73 points or 0.9%. The Hang Seng Tech Index is at 4,314, up 2 points or less than 0.1%. (am)
